Reese tapped his thumb impatiently on the steering wheel.
The traffic was horrendous. There must be an accident somewhere up the street. Atlanta traffic could be a nightmare any time of the day or day of the week, but right now had to be the worst time in history for there to be a long line of cars inching along at a sloth’s pace.
“F*ck!” He slammed his hand against the wheel and craned his neck in vain to find the problem. Not that it mattered. If he saw what caused the traffic jam, he couldn’t do anything about it.
“Reese, pull over.”
Nina spoke in a calm voice, but she appeared to be anything but calm. Instead, as anxious as he was, with turbulent emotion flaring in her eyes.
“Pull over,” she said again, softer this time. She placed a hand on his thigh, and his muscles tensed. With that single touch, she generated enough heat to start a forest fire.
Nothing else needed to be said. The out-of-control desire that consumed him consumed her, too.
The minute Reese saw an opening, he made a sharp right down a side street, away from the crawling traffic, and parked in the shadows.
The honking horns became a distant sound compared to the quiet in the car. Reese turned to Nina and held her chin, tilting her face up to his. Her full lips parted as her chest heaved up and down, and he swooped his mouth down on hers in an open-mouthed kiss. His tongue delved between her lips, tasting the sweet nectar of her mouth, and she shivered. She tasted like heaven. Better than the finest chocolate, her flavor bursting on his tongue and making him dizzy with the need and hunger that filled every part of him.
The anniversary night of her father’s death came back with a vengeance. The control he’d had to exercise so as not to take advantage of her emotional state was no longer a factor. He unsnapped her seatbelt and pulled her closer, threading his fingers into her thick, kinky hair.
He explored the velvety softness of her lips, but as much as he enjoyed the mouth-to-mouth contact, the position was awkward. Reese lifted his head.
“This isn’t going to work.”
“Yes, it is,” she insisted, leaning in and fastening her mouth to his again.
She was so eager. So greedy. Reese groaned and held her head, kissing her thoroughly with a loud, wet kiss.
But he lifted his head again and gazed down into her sex-hungry eyes. “Let’s get in the back seat. It’s better.”
With the awkward twisting and shifting of his long body, Reese climbed into the back. Nina removed her shoes, and he helped her do the same, his arms and hands serving to help keep her balance.
Giggling, she settled on his lap and straddled his thighs.
Reese brushed her hair back from her face. “What’s so funny?”
“We haven’t gotten any better at climbing into the back seat. Remember that night at the park when we almost got caught in your car?”
He’d forgotten about that time. He planned to have her spend the night in his room, but his mother came back early from a business trip, and they’d had to make do at the park. When a police car cruised into the area, they’d scrambled to put on the few items of clothing they’d removed.
“I remember that. You were scared,” he said softly, smiling into her eyes.
“And you weren’t. Meanwhile, I was terrified we’d get caught, and my father would be so disappointed in me.”
Reese grinned. “I corrupted you.”
“You did,” she said softly, edging her face closer.
“Still worried about getting caught?” Reese asked, searching her eyes.
“Not tonight.”
