If you’ve read my books, you know my heroes aren’t always sunshine and sweet words. Sometimes they’re intense, arrogant, and frustratingly stubborn… but still impossible for my heroines to resist. These are the alpha-holes.
Thiago falls into that category. As I was writing the story, I wondered to myself, how do women handle men like this? Well, I went straight to the source and asked India Monroe to give her perspective on what it’s like to love an alpha-hole.
Below is her response.
Hello readers!
Truth time. Falling for Thiago Santana was not in my plans. As the VP of marketing for Santana International’s entire U.S. territory, I have my hands full on a daily basis. I work hard, and I like my independence, so when Thiago and I started our affair, I figured I’d use him to satisfy my needs for the time being. Our Friday night hookups were supposed to be just that—hookups.
Then I fell in love with him. Sigh. I know, I know, falling for my boss was not my brightest idea. But loving him is the best mistake I ever made. No, really! Ultimately, he’s a good man, always has my back, and is perfect for me.
So here’s what it’s like to love an alpha-hole.
1. He drives me crazy.
Thiago doesn’t take hints. Or no, for an answer. Or silence. He pushes and prods until he gets what he wants. For example, when I started dating another man, I dodged his questions as best I could, but oh boy, was he persistent. When he pushes and pushes, sometimes I want to scream. Sometimes I want to kiss him. Usually, I want to do both.
2. He’s overprotective.
When Thiago found out I have lupus, he became extra attentive, making sure I didn’t overwork myself. I was diagnosed with lupus in college, so I’ve had plenty of time to learn my body and how much I can push before I need to rest. One day, admittedly, I wasn’t feeling very well, and Thiago noticed. Do you know what he did? He sent me home!
“Go home. You’re done for the day,” Thiago said, rising from the chair and walking away from the conference table.
“Excuse me?”
He turned to see the expression of disbelief on her face.
“I have way too much work to do—”
“You’re done, India.” He hated having to repeat himself.
Slowly, she rose from the chair and clasped her hands together. “Thiago, you’re being ridiculous.”
“I am the one being ridiculous?” he scoffed.
That’s Thiago. And yes, I went home.
3. Jealousy should be his middle name.
Cancel Friday night with him? Cue the third degree.
Thiago Jealousy Santana has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?
Anyway, I canceled our Friday night rendezvous one too many times, and he popped up at my apartment. We had a bit of an argument, which included him saying, and I quote, ‘Friday night is my goddamn night.’
*eye roll*
Then when my date showed up, he refused to leave! I have to be honest, though, seeing him jealous turned me on a little. It meant maybe he wasn’t as indifferent about our relationship as I thought he was.
4. He doesn’t play games.
I’m in my thirties and do not have time for B.S. Thiago is direct, doesn’t beat around the bush, and is shameless about what he wants because he believes he deserves it. There’s no second-guessing where an alpha-hole like Thiago is concerned. Once he and I moved past our casual Friday night hookups, he made sure I understood my role in his life. I was his woman. End of story.
5. He makes my life easier.
Thiago has the power and wealth to make my life easier, and he does. But he also notices the little things, something as simple as the type of tea I drink. I already told you that he makes sure I take time to rest when I need to. Knowing he’s so attentive to my needs and willing to make my life easier… well, it makes me melt—and love him even more.
6. He takes charge in the bedroom.
I’m not a shy woman, but there’s something very sexy about a man who takes charge in the bedroom—like he does in the boardroom. In bed, Thiago is commanding and devastatingly thorough. Every touch, every kiss, every whispered command reminds me that surrendering to him doesn’t mean losing—it means being completely satisfied.
Thiago spun her toward the wall, and she flattened her hands against its cool surface, holding her breath as he lifted her dress, crushing the fabric in his fists. Lowering to his knees behind her, he pushed the dress higher and curled his fingers into the strips of fabric at her hips. With a sound of irritation, he ripped the thong from her body, as if its very presence had offended him.
“At this rate, you’re going to have to give me a lingerie allowance,” India panted to the wall. She waited impatiently for the sensation of his lips and the brush of his beard—elegant and masculine, soft and rough—like the man himself.
“Done,” he said in a husky growl.
So, loving an alpha-hole is… complicated. Despite the difficulties, I wouldn’t trade him for anything. True enough, being difficult is written into his DNA, but I’m certain that if you were me, you’d fall for him, too.
Thiago shows me in big and small ways how much I mean to him. He satisfies me—emotionally and physically—like no other man before him.
And that’s why I love him.

Alpha-holes…love them! They have so many facets to their personality and I love seeing them come to light.
That’s one of the reasons why I enjoy reading and writing about them. There’s so much more once you get past the gruff exterior.
